Aid for Odesa Regional Blood Transfusion Station

During the transfusion of blood and its components, doctors pay special attention to safety, because there is a risk of harming the patient. For these purposes, special devices have been developed to reduce the pathogenic load in blood products of various disease-causing agents, such as viruses, parasites and bacteria, before they are transfused to patients.

Many blood centers are equipped with the necessary professional equipment, but the institutions constantly need consumables, which are quite expensive for ordinary Ukrainians. In particular, the Odesa Regional Blood Transfusion Station has installed a modern device called Mirasol, which can inactivate leukocytes to reduce certain reactions after transfusion, including GVHD (graft-versus-host reaction), and is an alternative to gamma irradiation of blood. Mirasol disinfects the blood with the help of riboflavin (vitamin B2) and ultraviolet radiation.

Our team managed to hand over 25 disposable sets for plasma irradiation to the Center. We hope that they will help more than one patient to recover as soon as possible.
